I got my undergraduate degree in Studio Art and Business from the University of Northwestern. After about seven years in the field of production ceramics I made the decision to head in a different direction that involved helping others, Art Therapy. I began at Alfred Adler Graduate School and enjoyed the individual Psychology that was created by Alfred Adler, which emphasizes the ideas of human nature’s deepest needs of belonging and contribution. This is where I found the perfect merge of art materials and psychology, Adlerian Art Therapy.
I emphasize exploring internal experiences of my clients as well as how this inner world is impacted and influences others through various boundaries. I believe in giving individuals the space to explore their own soul’s voice through imagery. Through this process individuals I work with are able to define their inner world so they are able to show up to their outer world with more choice.
Hi there!
I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of St. Thomas. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults who present a variety of mental health concerns including; depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, trauma, ADHD, and grief and loss.
My goal is to create a warm, supportive, and encouraging environment while assisting clients in discovering that they have power within themselves to navigate the difficulties present in their life. I utilize a client-centered approach while helping clients distinguish who they are and who they want to be, while assessing what steps need to be taken to get there. I take holistic measures by integrating the mind, body, and soul to promote healing, which I believe is key to living a long-term balanced and fulfilled life. Although I am constantly learning and evolving my therapeutic practice, the modalities I utilize most are cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based therapy, attachment theory, and motivational interviewing. The first step toward help is just a conversation away. I look forward to meeting with you!
I have developed a strong passion for working with and supporting children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, co-occurring disorders, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and relationship problems. I believe that therapy is most effective when we work together as a team to treat distressing symptoms. It can be incredibly difficult to be vulnerable with a stranger. A goal of mine is to build a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients so they feel safe, comfortable, and supported through their journey exploring themselves. That being said, my approach to therapy is person-centered and emphasizes unconditional positive regard. I integrate cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques with person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-informed care.
As a mental health therapist intern, I am currently working under the supervision of Carla McKean and Ilissa Jones.
Let me introduce myself... I am married and have 4 children. I have experienced living in a dysfunctional home as a child and have gone through many challenges in my own life such as addiction and divorce. I believe that we all have the capability to survive through difficult times and unwanted emotions, because I have. I also believe that we are all worthwhile and valuable individuals that have something valuable to offer others. However, sometimes the world and people around us can seem discouraging and shame-based. One of my goals as a therapist is to model self-worth and provide my clients with constant encouragement until they are able to see themselves as a worthwhile person that is capable of also encouraging others. I have experience working for many years helping healthcare professionals and other professionals who have found themselves with addiction or mental health problems. These career pathways bring many challenges that require support and encouragement, that often are not found within the healthcare and professional world. I have supported many healthcare professionals such as nurses, physicians, phd/psyd, emt, paramedics, fire fighters, therapists, social workers, etc. In addition to healthcare professionals, I have also worked with executives, attorneys and police officers. Types of emotional challenges that are a part of my daily work include: individuals struggling with emotion regulation and may have been labeled with the following disorders: personality disorders, substance abuse, bi-polar, PTSD, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and major depression. I also specialize in addictions as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor, understanding addictions as yet another attempted solution an individual has found to help them cope with the unwanted emotions that life brings.
